Privacy Policy
We collect the minimum necessary data to operate this site and improve content. This page explains what, why, and your choices.
Summary
We don’t sell personal data. We use limited technical information to run the site and improve content. If you choose to contact us, we’ll use your message to respond. Some pages may include affiliate links; those links do not give us your personal info.
Data We Collect
- Technical data: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, timestamps, and referring URLs (standard web server logs).
- Communication data: If you email us or submit a form, we receive the content you provide (e.g., name, email, message).
- Cookies/Local Storage: Small files your browser may store to remember preferences (see Cookies below).
How We Use Data
- Operate & secure the site (load pages, prevent abuse/fraud).
- Improve content (understand what guides are helpful).
- Respond to messages you send via email or forms.
- Compliance with law, legal process, or enforce site policies.
Analytics
With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate visits, referral sources, pages viewed, approximate geography, device/browser information, and interactions such as printing the 72-hour checklist. Google Analytics remains off unless you accept the analytics prompt.
Google may process technical identifiers under its own terms. Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
You can change your choice at any time using Analytics choices in the site footer. You can also clear site data in your browser.
Location & Weather Alerts
The Field Conditions page does not request location automatically. If you select “Use my current location,” your browser asks for permission and provides coordinates for that lookup. You may instead enter coordinates manually.
The coordinates are sent directly from your browser to the National Weather Service API to retrieve point forecasts, hourly weather, active alerts, and a state abbreviation, and to the U.S. Geological Survey API to retrieve nearby earthquake records. The state abbreviation—not precise coordinates—is sent to OpenFEMA to retrieve recent declarations. Survival Nexus does not store the coordinates or state in local storage or maintain its own copy. These agencies and site-hosting providers may receive ordinary request information under their respective policies.
Affiliate Links
We may participate in affiliate programs (e.g., Amazon Associates, AvantLink). When you click an affiliate link, the retailer may use a cookie or tracking parameter to attribute any purchase to our site. We do not receive personal information about you from affiliate networks—only aggregated reports (e.g., item/category and commission).
See also our Affiliate Disclosure for full affiliate disclosure and review standards.
Data Retention
We keep server logs for a limited period for security and diagnostics. If you contact us, we retain messages as long as needed to respond and maintain records, then delete when no longer necessary.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. Use caution when sharing sensitive information online.
Your Rights & Choices
Your privacy rights depend on your location. Where applicable (e.g., California/EEA), you may request to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold, or object to/limit certain processing.
- Access/Correction/Deletion: Contact us and we’ll assist when we can verify your request.
- Opt-out of marketing: We don’t send marketing email by default; if we ever do, you’ll have an unsubscribe option.
- Cookies: Control or delete via your browser settings.
- Analytics: Decline the initial prompt or reopen “Analytics choices” in the footer.
We do not sell personal information. We do not knowingly process sensitive categories.
Children
This site is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
